About this book

This study of beetles in the superfamily Tenebrionoidea continues efforts to document the biodiversity of South Carolina. Twenty tenebrionoid families (excluding Ciidae and Scraptiidae) are covered: Aderidae, Anthicidae, Archeocrypticidae, Boridae, Ischaliidae, Melandryidae, Meloidae, Mordellidae, Mycetophagidae, Mycteridae, Oedemeridae, Pyrochroidae, Pythidae, Ripiphoridae, Salpingidae, Stenotrachelidae, Synchroidae, Tenebrionidae, Tetratomidae, and Zopheridae. Among the 440 species in 176 genera known from or likely to be found in South Carolina that are treated, 111 represent new state records. Diagnostic keys, descriptions, and diagrams allow adults to be identified. Included for each species are South Carolina records, a summary of the North American range, and months that adults have been collected in South Carolina. The work also includes a photograph of a species of each genus.
