About this book

Kate Lynch has spent over two years shadowing Somerset beekeepers. This books accompanies her exhibition, which consists of 40 paintings and large charcoal drawings of beekeepers at work through the seasons – from the first opening of the hive in spring, through the busy summer, with the capture of a swarm and the spinning of honey, and into busy sheds in winter, with the weaving of a traditional straw skep. There are also images of the honey bee foraging on apple blossom, crops and hedgerow flowers through the year. The images are accompanied by written extracts from interviews with the beekeepers.
