Originally published in 1914, this is the most extensive review of the giant tortoises of the Galapagos Islands. It contains detailed descriptions of 266 specimens collected by the California Academy of Sciences expedition of 1905-1906, as well as extensive field notes by the collectors, tables of measurements of shells and eggs, and 200 photographs of tortoises.
