Standard Berlese Funnel

Berlese Funnels are used for extracting small arthropods such as insects, spiders or larvae of insects from soil and litter samples.

The Standard Berlese Funnel is made from PE plastic and is housed in an aluminium framework. It uses a 50ml eppendorf tube as the collecting container at the bottom of the funnel and the sample soil or leaf litter is placed on a 30cm diameter plastic PP mesh tray which sits inside the funnel. An additional mesh lid prevents bugs from escaping or from entering the sample litter. 

The Berlese Funnel is designed so that it can be hung by strings (not included) if required. An external heat source (not included) can also be used in order to accelerate the extraction process.
