This is the first volume of Fauna Sinica: Reptilia. It includes all chelonias and crocodiles of China belonging to Testudoformes and Crocodiliformes respectively, which have heretofore been recorded.

There are 37 species of Testudoformes under 6 families and 20 genera; 3 species of Crocodiliformes belong to 2 families and 3 genera.

This volume consists of a general introduction to the reptile, evolution of the reptile, systematic accounts of species, and a list of the geographic distribution of the Chinese chelonias and crocodiles. Under each species listed, besides the nomenclature with synonyms whenever considered necessary, diagnostic characters , description, distribution, ecology and economic significance are provided.
