The Eastern Ghats, one of the nine floristic zones in India, are located between 11 degree and 50' and 86 degree 30' E longitude in a north-east to South west strike. The Eastern Ghats are spread over three states of India, namely Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. It covers an area of about 75,000 sq. km. With an average width of 200 km in the north and 100 km in the South. They extend over a length of 1750 km between the rivers Mahanadi and Vaigainal along East Coast.

In the present volume Systematic Enumeration of families from Stylidaceae to Plantaginaceae is given. Families are arranged according to Bentham and Hooker's system with incorporation of recent changes. Under each family key to the genera, followed by genus with its authority, keys to the species and species enumeration is given. The genera under the family and species under the genus are arranged in alphabetical sequence. Keys are of the indented type. The enumeration of the species includes citation according to ICBN, basionym and synonym if any, description and distribution in the Eastern Ghats, flowering and fruiting period, vernacular names, specimens examined and distribution in India and world. Index to families genera and species are given at the end. Line drawing of most species and photographs of many species are also given.
