A flora treatment of the Caricaceae occurring in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Burundi is provided. The family is represented by a single species: Carica papaya L. Another species, Vasconcellea pubescens A.DC, was introduced and is cultivated at high altitude while the genus Cylicomorpha Urb. is to be expected within the Flora region. A key to all taxa is included. The species C. papaya comes with a description and plate. as well as data on its habitat, vernacular names, uses, representative herbarium specimens and references to additional literature.
