About this book

Language: German

This multi-volume work provides a comprehensive overview of the entire herpetofauna of Europe. Detailed species-specific data and information has been compiled for each reptile and amphibian species occurring in Europe. For species, specialists were approached to write the specific species chapter. Careful editing by the publisher has resulted in a uniformity of the entire work.

With this volume, the treatment of the most fascinating groups of vertebrates ever begins, the turtle. An introductory chapter provides information on the various hypotheses of its systematic position within the reptiles.

This is followed by a description of eight species from four different Taxa: genus Mauremys, tortoises (family Testudinidae), pond or marsh turtles (family Emydidae), and genus Pseudemys.

Each species chapter follows a uniform classification scheme. A large number of excellent drawings and detailed distribution maps support the text.
