About this book

Language: Italian

Very elusive due to their often twilight or nocturnal habits and their mistrust of humans, mammals are not easily approachable animals, although their expressiveness and vivacity, as well as the variety and complexity of behaviuoral patterns, makes them among the most sought-after animals to photograph, and among the most interesting animals to study.

Of the 118 species of mammals known at present in Italy, nearly 90 have their habitat in the alpine chain.

This book is designed to help non-experts recognize the individual species, providing useful elements in identifying their presence by identifying tracks left in their territory (such as footprints), specifying areas of distribution, habitats and characteristics of each species, and illustrating the habits and behaviours of these fascinating animals.

For each species identification sheet contains the scientific name, the vernacular name in four languages, an Alpine arc distribution map, measurements, eating habits, periods of hibernation, and biology. The book includes gorgeous photographs that emphasize morphological elements useful for identification, and guides enthusiasts to the discovery of the animal world populating the Alps.
