About this book

Language: Chinese with scientific nomenclature

This volume of Palaeovertebrata Sinica is a systematic determination and summary of bird fossil material discovered and published in China before July 2018, including an introduction to birds and systematic descriptions of Mesozoic and Cenozoic birds. The introduction includes the definition, phylogeny and classification of birds, the characteristics of bird bones, the history and geographical distribution of bird fossils in China, and the research history of Chinese bird fossils. The systematic description presents Mesozoic and Cenozoic birds as two separate parts. The section on Mesozoic birds introduces the achievements of recent cladistic research on Mesozoic birds, especially some higher-order taxa; There are 92 species of 83 genera of birds. For Cenozoic birds, 28 genera and 32 species are described, for a total of 111 genera and 124 species are described. Each type species is accompanied by pictures and a summary review of some controversial higher-order taxa.
