This series, originally titled Faune Tropicale, was retitled Faune et Flore Tropicales with the publication of volume 33. It deals with invertebrate and vertebrate as well as plant systematics in the warm areas of the world. Initially published by the IRD alone, from 2002 the series has been co-published by IRD and the Paris Natural History Museum, with occasional involvement of the Royal Museum for Central Africa in Belgium.
From volume 45 onwards, the series also incorporates other series as co-publications with the Paris Museum of Natural History that were originally published outside of the Faune et Flore Tropicales.
