Naturalists' Handbooks

Each Naturalists’ Handbook is packed with information, covering biology, practical notes on identifying insects, in the field or in the laboratory, with plates of individual species and line drawings of many of the key identification characteristics. The information squeezed into each thin volume should enable anyone to identify many common species and includes notes on techniques and approaches to further research. Naturalists’ Handbooks are aimed at everybody with an interest in natural history, and contain enough to satisfy specialist and enthusiast alike. Although many of these field guides are on invertebrates, other volumes cover marine life, reptiles and amphibians, and lichens.

Naturalists’ Handbooks began life under the Cambridge University Press imprint, were then published by Richmond Publishing and the Company of Biologists. In the last few years the series has been rejuvenated by Pelagic Publishing.
