Sammlung Geologischer Führer

The volumes of Sammlung Geologischer Führer (Geological Guidebook Series), published since 1897, cover the geology of various regions, most of them in Germany and German-speaking countries but not confined to them (e.g. Namibia, Italy, Greece, etc.). Most of the volumes are in German, though at least the most recent is in English. They are in a handy pocket-size format suited for packing on field trips and generally feature two parts. After introducing the general geological setting of the covered region, an excursion guide part features numerous field trip routes that explore obvious and subtle features of the regional geology. The volumes, while primarily addressing professional readers, are intended to be usable for anybody interested in understanding the geology and the rocks of the covered area.
