Aerial surveys were conducted during the months of December, January and February, during the winters of 2000/01 and 2001/02. The aim of the surveys was to collects data on the numbers and distribution of wintering seaduck (Anatidae), divers (Gaviidae) and Grebes (Podicepididae) within UK inshore areas known to be important for these groups of species. The areas in both winters were the Moray and Inverness Firths, the Firth of Tay and the Firth of Forth. The Beauly Firth was included in surveys of the Moray Firth area in 2000/01 while the Dornoch Firth was included in 2001/02. In addition, one off surveys were made of; Loch Indaal (Isla); the Solway Firth; part of the Angus Coast; and Cardigan Bay in 2000/01; and the Thames Estuary and Suffolk coast in 2001/02.
