About this book

For 40 years Arthur Went was a central figure in Irish fisheries, with very wide interests from salmonids to rare sea fishes. This is the first complete listing of Went’s 320 publications on fish and fisheries from 1936 to 1981, annotated and with a detailed index to over 50 river systems and diverse fishes, dominated by Atlantic Salmon and Sea Trout.

Media reviews

"[...] These days, Google and websites such as Academia and ResearchGate do a good job of listing the research output of academics and researchers, but earlier work still has to be compiled by trawling through the published literature. Professor Wilkins has done us a valuable service by this bibliography with its useful annotations, and by his introduction to Went’s life and times. The broad history of Irish fisheries has much still to be elucidated, and perhaps Wilkins will turn his hand to it. This book, privately published in an edition of 250 copies, is likely to sell out, and a second edition can take care of the few typos present. I can recommend it to anyone interested in the development of fisheries in the Irish State, and as a window into the lively and positive mind of one of our foremost applied scientists."
– Julian Reynolds, Irish Naturalists’ Journal Vol. 35 Part 2
