The aim of the CD-ROM Blue-Green Algae of the British Isles is to aid the identification of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) present in terrestrial, freshwater and marine field samples. It includes an interactive key to over 358 taxa, together with images and general information. The key was produced as a collaborative study between the University of Durham and the Environment Agency of England and Wales.

The CD includes an interactive key to species based on characters and character states and information about individual species on pages linked to each taxon. This includes taxonomic description and ecology, line diagram and often also one or two colour images. Further images, which are accessed separately, are added in some cases; these include general views for some organisms.

Compatible with Windows XP or earlier, and with accompanying instructions to modify the disc, Vista and Windows 7.
