About this book

Language: Dutch

Bomen van Paramaribo is an ode to the capital of Suriname, which is home to a large number of beautiful trees that give the city a unique character. Few capital cities harbour such a unique diversity of trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants as Paramaribo.

Part 1 treats the 100 most common tree species: indigenous trees, exotic species, fruit trees, and palm trees. For every tree species nomenclature and several interesting facts of botanical, geographical, cultural historical, culinary, or medicinal nature are given. The colourful selection of colour photos offer a good overview of the exuberant vegetation of the city.

The second part describes six itineraries through various parts of the city. Using the maps, one is able to enounter the trees described in the first part. The photos and text help with looking for and recognising the beautiful trees of Paramaribo.
