In the first part of this work, the authors present the genera Anaeomorpha Rothschild, 1894, and Noreppa Rydon, 1971, together with Archaeoprepona Fruhstorfer, 1915, comprising the species amphimachus, meander and demophon. The remainder of Archaeoprepona will be presented in a second part.
All genera, species and almost all subspecies are illustrated and discussed. The arrangement of genera, species and subspecies is based upon the publications of Fruhstorfer (1916) and Lamas (2004). A great number of specimens have been examined, including typematerial or photographs, in several private and institutional collections.
In order to clearly show and compare differences in colour of the metallic shining bands on the upper surface of some of the butterflies, all specimens were photographed under identical conditions. Only in this way can accurate colour be presented, as the colour changes when the position and/or the lighting is changed.
