About this book

Language: English

The Society of Fisheries Technologists (India) aims to promote the cause of fisheries in general and fisheries technology in particular. The Society provides a forum for fisheries scientists and technologists to meet and discuss problems facing the harvest and post-harvest technology of fish, including aquaculture. It encourages original research in the field of fisheries by publishing the international scientific journal Fishery Technology (published in January and July every year); by organizing workshops, seminars and symposia in areas of emerging interest; and by instituting the prestigious biennial award for outstanding contributions in fisheries. Membership of the Society is open to all persons interested in fisheries, fisheries technology, aquaculture and allied fields.

The present volume is an edited compilation of the papers presented in the National Seminar on Conservation and Sustainability of Coastal Living Resources of India (ConserveFish-2009), 1-3 December 2009, Cochin. The contributions cover the status of coastal fishery resources and their management; fisheries environment; responsible fishing; market-driven conservation strategies; responsible utilisation through quality control, value addition, waste utlisation, energy conservation; climate change mitigation and livelihood issues.
