The Arabian region can be treated a major `subregion' of the Indo-Pacific, and in terms of its coral reefs, within the region,the Red Sea has the highest recorded diversity of coral reefs in the Indian Ocean west of Australia and Indonesia. This monograph, after an introductory section, a description of methodology, and an overview of coral communities in the Arabian region, describes 16 families and 220 species, with notes on distribution, habitat, and abundance.
