该专著通过约8万字和680余幅精美的图片，图文并茂的介绍了秋海棠属各个野生种类的形态、产地、生境、栽培、繁殖、观赏特性等。其中包括‘变色秋海棠’、‘蛛网脉秋海棠’等150种国内有分布的秋海棠原生种和特产于菲律宾、马来西亚的‘内格罗斯秋海棠’、‘马来西王秋海棠’等70余种国外野生秋海棠。
