About this book

Language: Dutch

Of all European birds of prey, the white-tailed eagle is the biggest and strongest. With a wingspan of 200 to 240 cm this is an imposing bird that is surpassed in size only by the carrion eating griffon and cinereous vultures.

In 2004, the first pair of white-tailed eagles settled in the Dutch wetlands of the Oostvaardersplassen, resulting in the first hatchling in 2006. This was the start for a Dutch population of Europe's largest eagle that reached 15 couples by 2019. In this book, the focus is on the white-tailed eagles of the Oostvaardersplassen and the detla of the IJssel river.

Martijn de Jonge presents an impressive portrait of this majestic bird using beautiful photos, and shows how it has conquered its place in the Dutch environment. Other topics extensively featured here are choice of prey and nesting trees, risks, and future prospect at the European level.
