"The caligid copepods parasitic on the fishes inhabiting the inshore waters of Kerala have been fairly extensively studied. A review of the available information on the group is under publication (Pillai in press). The first author who is currently making a detailed study of the Caligids of the Kerala waters succeeded in collecting a large number of species which are new, new records or hitherto only insufiiciently known due to the dearth of material. It is proposed to describe these species in a series of papers of which the present is the first contribution. The second deals with a new genus, Kabataella."
