This volume is dedicated to the clade of Heterobranchia that includes the superfamilies Architectonicoidea, Homalogyroidea, Pyramidelloidea, Murchisonelloidea, Rissoelloidea, and the remaining Valvatoidea and Heterobranchia not yet assigned to any superfamily.

In consideration of the variability of intraspecific pyramidellid snails and the difficulty in perceiving the diagnostic characters, albeit by good photographs, the authors decided to attach an appendix to the volume with which to offer to the reader the cards of each species with the morphological characters more easily identifiable.

The book, in addition to the text, includes 41 color plates with about 900 photos, relating to the 210 recognized species living in the Mediterranean.
