About this product

The Compact LED Skinner Moth Trap features an economical LED light source that makes it suitable for use with lightweight, long lasting lithium batteries. The innovative design includes a white polypropylene frame that reflects UV rather than absorbing it like other materials, increasing catch rates and species range to resemble those achieved by a single 15w actinic bulb. The trap has been extensively tested for two years by experts in the UK, Ireland, Spain and the US. Please see the LED vs Actinic Comparison Chart for relative catch rates

This trap is ideal for use in remote locations where mains power may not be available and it is easy to assemble and can be flat-packed, enabling it to easily fit into a daysack for ease of transport. One major advantage of this moth trap is that power comes from smaller, cheaper and lighter 4AH or 8Ah Tracer lithium batteries, rather than the higher Ah 12V batteries that run other portable moth traps. This means that it is suitable for air travel (the legal limit being 8Ah – but please check with your airline). A 4Ah battery will run for 9 hours and an 8Ah for 18 hours. Please note that batteries are not included.

Please note: These LED moth traps operate most satisfactorily in areas where there are high densities of moths and may not therefore be ideal for use in gardens in the UK.

  • LED lamps not long lasting
    By Martin 23 May 2020
The LED lamps on this trap are not long lasting. After one season March to November, one of these was not sufficiently working anymore, while the other was maybe radiating half the energy. I ordered one new one (expensive) but eventually stoped using these because I think that LED UV lamps are not sufficiently cooled during use. (Cf. LEPILED approach with sufficient cooling)
