About this book

Language: English

Rotifers are part of the meiofauna, that is, the set of metazoans that inhabit marine and freshwater sediments. Microscopic in size, they are organisms that play a fundamental role in marine ecosystem processes related to the nutrient cycle, mineralization, and sediment transport. Despite their ecological importance, they have been little investigated due to the taxonomic difficulties they present and the scientific literature has always been small. This is remedied by this volume which deals with all known Italian species, including up-to-date distribution data and identification information for the various species present in Italian seas with illustrations and drawings. This will allow marine ecologists and both specialists and non-specialists to work on the ecological monitoring of water.
