About this book

Language: Italian

The only existing book that covers the sawfly fauna of Italy that has identification keys and accurate treatment of all species dates back to the end of the nineteenth century.

This volume of the Fauna d'Italia dedicated to the suborder Symphyta updates the reader on a subject that is interesting not only for the specialist but also has an applied side. Sawflies are a group of great importance from agricultural and forestry points of view and as a biological indicator of environmental quality. With this in mind, the discussion of their biology and ecology here and in future volumes draws mainly and preferably on the most recent contributions and those works that still prove to be irreplaceable.

The treatment of the individual species is particularly rich in information relating to their biology and ecology, and for each, a detailed and updated picture of the distribution data (published and original) is provided, which, for a group that is as poorly known as the sawflies, should constitute a very useful basis for future insights. This first volume deals with the families Xyelidae, Pamphiliidae, Megalodontesidae, Blasticotomidae, Argidae, Heptamelidae, and Tenthredinidae.
