About this book

Language: Chinese with 132-page English summary

The present work deals with the Dolichopodidae (the long-legged fly family) fauna of China. It consists of two sections, general section and taxonomic section. In the general section, the historic review of classification, taxonomic systems, morphology, phylogeny, biogeography and biology of long-legged flies are introduced. In the taxonomic section, 66 genera and 1026 species from China are described or redescribed. Among them 19 species are described as new to science. The keys to the world subfamilies of Dolichopodidae and the Chinese genera and species are presented. The types of the new species are deposited in the Entomological Museum of China Agricultural University, Beijing.

The superfamily Empidoidea is one of the highly diversified groups in Diptera with over 11800 known species. It is divided into two families, Empididae and Dolichopodidae.
