More than 2000 specimens of Liogryphaea arcuata (Lamarck), coming from four populations of the Sinemurian in lotharingian facies in the north-eastern part of the Paris Basin have been analysed as to their paleontological and paleoecological evidence.
In a first part is given a detailed description of the epifauna, such as young Oysters, Bryozoans (Stomatopora sp.), Crinoids and encrustring Sponges, as well as borings done by different organisms: boreholes made by Barnacles, filiform boring-systems of different types, boreholes due to Gastropodes, to encrusting Sponges, and finally recent and actual borings.
In a second part the author tries to reconstruct the biological and the sedimentological environment of the different populations, whilst, in a last chapter, he examines the presumed live-position of Liogryphaea arcuata (Lamarck) in connection with the epifauna and the endofauna.
