About this product

These traditional hanging flight cages are used for emerging, flying, demonstrating, pairing and insect egg-laying, especially with lepidoptera. Because they are lightweight and portable, these cages are useful for travel, offering temporary accommodation for a wide range of insects on cut plants placed inside the cage. The fine high transparency black net is sewn with no internal projecting seams, and the cages are specially designed to hang with near vertical sides with minimum 'necking', which would otherwise tend to trap insects at the upper corners. Both sizes of cage are fitted with a vertical entry single slider side zip.

Convert the Hanging Cage to a Free Standing Cage
Support rods are available for both sizes of hanging cage. The rods will convert the cage into a freestanding cage for when hanging may not be convenient or for easier inspection. When the cages are placed on the floor or a table they allow plant pots or jars to be placed in the cage. Using support rods also removes all net creases for a particularly neat appearance.

Specification

12" cage: 12" (30.5cm) diameter, with a total length of 15.5" (39cm).
Support rods: 3 x 40cm.

16" cage: 16" (40.5cm) diameter, with a total length of 23.5" (59cm).
Support rods: 6 x 30cm with push jointed fixing, to achieve 3 x 60cm lengths.

Please note, support rods are only necessary if you want to turn the hanging cage into a free-standing cage. They are sold separately and available here.
