Part 1 of the Hesperiidae subseries describes the butterfly subfamilies Coeliadinae and Heteropterinae. For the past two decades or so, the phylogeny and taxonomy of this speciose group has drawn the attention of researchers. There are some inconsistencies in the group's phylogeny and taxonomy and the authors have had to draw provisionary conclusions that they believe are the better, if not the best, at present.
