This is a memoir written by the author of The Comps of Mexico of his nine-month expedition in Africa under the leadership of Homer L. Shantz (1876-1958), an American botanist and former president of the University of Arizona. The purpose of the expedition was to document vegetational changes that might or might not have taken place on that continent over a thirty year period. The data, technical observations and conclusions from this study were published elsewhere (Shantz, H. L. and Turner, B. L. 1958. Vegetational Changes in Africa. University of Arizona, Report No. 169). This book is a personal reflection on that expedition.
