About this product

The Longworth trap is has been widely used in the UK for many years. It is our most popular small mammal trap, designed to minimise the discomfort of the animal. It is constructed from anti-corrosion aluminium which makes it lightweight for field use and it is designed to allow easy access to all parts for cleaning.

The trap consists of two parts: a tunnel which contains the door tripping mechanism and a nest box, which is attached to the back of the tunnel. The sensitivity of the tripping mechanism is adjustable and the nest box provides a large space for food and bedding material to ensure that the trapped animal is comfortable until release. When in use please ensure the nest box is at an upwards angle to the trap tunnel to prevent rain entering the nest box and to provide drainage for urine or condensation. When the trap is not in use the tunnel can be conveniently placed inside the nest box for easy carriage and storage. A Longworth trap without a shrew hole is available for use in areas where shrew trapping is unlikely.

NB: Some small mammal species are protected by law (e.g. shrews in the UK). When trapping shrews in England you must comply with licence terms and conditions set out by Natural England, this information can be found on the government website. In Scotland you must apply for a license on the Nature Scot website. In Wales you must download the license from the Natural Resources Wales website and contact them to let them know you intend to activate the license. For Northern Ireland, visit the DAERA website to submit an application. Please ensure you are aware of and meet the requirements of any relevant laws in the country in which you are trapping.

  • Great product and customer service

Great product and equally great customer service. I had ordered the wrong trap (without shrew hole) by mistake. Marilyn in customer services was very helpful and promptly amended my order to the correct trap. Recommend.
