About this book

Language: English

The Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve (NBR) is the oldest and most popular biosphere reserve in India, established in 1986. It is situated in the Western Ghats, in the Nilgiri Hills range of South India. Although studies on the biodiversity of relating to certain specific insect orders have been carried out, there is a lack of data on Orthopteran biodiversity in different ecosystems in the Western Ghats, and in the NBR specifically. This study identified 52 species belonging to 45 genera and 3 families in different habitats. This book provides taxonomic descriptions along with photographs. Keys to species are provided. The family Acrididae was the most numerous here with 33 species, followed by Tettogoniidae with 12 species and Gryllidae with seven species. Thirteen species were recorded for the first time in the NBR.
