About this book

The eastern coastal region of India is here defined to include the coasts of Sundarban, West Bengal, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Pondicherry. The present paper deals with 200 spider species in 66 genera under 19 families, viz., Araileidae, Clubionidae, Eresidae, Gnaphosidae, Hersilidae, Heteropodidae, Lycosidae, Lyssomanidae, Onopidae, Oxyopidae, Pholcidae, Scytodiidae, Salticidae, Tetragnathidae, Theridiidae, Thomisidae, Theraphosidae, Uloboridae, and Zoodariidae. Among these one species in one genus under one family, Marpissa gangasagarensis sp. nov. (Salticidae), has been recorded here as new to science and eight species in four genera under three famillies are recorded here for the first time from this area.
