The History of Nature describes the historical development of natural history and biology, and how social and economic conditions have influenced the ways in which people thought about nature in western Europe during the 19th and 20th centuries. This historical perspective enables us to better anticipate how naturalists and biologists may interpret nature in the 21st century. The History of Nature is written without jargon, and will particularly interest naturalists, biologists and social historians.
