About this book

Language: English

The source of this book are the contributions to and presentations at the International Symposium on Biodiversity: Status, Utilization and Impact of Challenging Climatic Conditions (ISB 2014) held in Lucknow, the capital of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, on October 30-31, 2014 under the auspices of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (A Central University), in collaboration with the Indian Academy of Environment Sciences, Haridwar, Uttar Pradesh. The symposium was notable for its large size and impact, drawing participants from Jammu Kashmir to Kerala and West to North-East states of the country as well as large numbers from abroad. It featured more than 500 delegates in the form of leading biologists, agriculture experts, teachers from reputed universities and colleges, representatives from institutes, researchers and students. The lectures and panels were well attended and provided fruitful discussions on the status of flora/faunal/microbial diversity along with the ecological aspects and recent developments in applied biosciences.

This volume of symposium proceedings is published as an issue of Trends in Biodiversity: Floral, Faunal and Ecological Aspects. The 37 chapters provide a broad view of diversity and the importance of different flora and faunal groups in India as well as abroad. The issue also deals with the ecology of different water bodies, western ghats, and parks.
