About this book

Language: German

Hated as the "lammergeyer", it was not easy for the bearded vulture in centuries past: it was hunted by all means and ultimately exterminated. Today we know that the bearded vulture does not feed on lambs, but almost exclusively on bones. In the 1970s, enthusiastic bearded vulture friends began to organize the reintroduction – in 1991 the first release into the wild was undertaken in Switzerland. Today, 30 years later, it is clear that the release of bearded vultures into the wild is one of the most successful reintroduction projects in the Alpine region.

A reason to celebrate and for a current monograph on the largest bird in the Alpine region. With breathtaking pictures by nature photographer Hansruedi Weyrich.
