About this book

Language: French

Biogeography is a discipline as old as science itself. While remaining anchored to its fundamentals, which are the study of the distribution of flora and plant landscapes and the factors influencing this distribution, it is increasingly at the interface of many disciplines of life and earth sciences, and the human and social sciences. Especially since it is now facing the questions raised by the conservation and management of areas, natural resources and biodiversity, and the new challenges and dangers of globalization. During the last 20 years the discipline has experienced a meteoric evolution and sprawling of terminology, of which this work is the witness.

The vocabulary of biogeography reflects not only the palette of plant landscapes of the planet, but also the diversity of disciplines which biogeographers call upon in their practice. Based on a vast body of literature, a multidisciplinary team of geographers, ethnobiologists, linguists and botanists assured control and drafting of this dictionary and has bourght together for the first time much of the terminology, more than 10 000 annotated definitions, used in the French practice of plant biogeography.
