About this book

Language: German

Feathers are one of the most fascinating inventions of nature. Colourfully patterned and interestingly shaped, they tell stories that delight all nature lovers. They can even be found everywhere on hikes and walks. But to what bird does a feather belong? With the help of this handbook, which now appears in a second, enlarged and revised edition, the feathers of 330 species of birds found in Central Europe can be reliably identified. From bearded vulture to wren, the most important breeding and migrant birds are considered. New additions include 30 species – including lesser spotted eagle, purple heron and Lapland longspur. Some species, for which additional feather documentation is now available, have been redrawn. High-quality, large-format colour charts show all relevant feather characteristics. The feathers of small species are often even shown on a scale of 1:1, so found feathers can also be placed on the colour charts and compared directly. Each species is also presented in detail in a separate entry. Reference photos in supporting panels allow immediate comparisons. Important information regarding protection laws and useful tips on how to deal with feather finds make this manual is an indispensable reference for all those interested in feathers.
