About this book

Language: Dutch

This is a high quality atlas of the butterflies of northwest Europe, covering Britain, northern France, the low countries (Holland, Belgium, Germany) and Scandinavia. For each of the 145 species, it gives full details of identification, morphs/variants, life cycle, habitat, distribution, natural history and ecology. There are colour photographs of all stages, including egg, pupa, caterpillar and adult, plus typical habitat. There is also a distribution map. Species are presented in standard taxonomic sequence, but the atlas is unique in giving a separate classification based on ecology. This involves comparisons of habitat and life cycle with other similar species. There are also extensive chapters on all aspects of lepidopteran ecology and biology, as well as regional habitat and climate types. Text is in Dutch throughout, but local names are given in German, Swedish, French and English.
