Available again after an absence of several years, this is an unmodified reprint of this benchmark encyclopedia that was originally published in 2013.

A major new series of handbooks. This incredible work, more than 10 years in the making, is the product of over 350 contributors under the distinguished editorship of Jonathan Kingdon, David Happold, Thomas M. Butynski, Michael Hoffmann, Meredith Happold, and Jan Kalina. A series of introductory chapters, summarising African mammal fauna, incorporate all the latest research on their taxonomy and evolution. Forming the bulk of the books, the authoritative individual species accounts are each written by an expert on that species. Over 1,100 species are documented and the volumes are divided as follows: introductory chapters and Afrotheria; primates; carnivores and pangolins; rodents and hares; insectivores and bats; and ungulates. The work is illustrated with many colour and black and white illustrations by Jonathan Kingdon and Meredith Happold.
