About this book

Language: German

After years of waiting and an intensive final spurt, the German Atlas der Brutvögel Thüringens is available in print, providing information on the distribution of breeding birds in the central German state of Thuringia. The mapping was carried out from 2005 to 2009 under the coordination of the Vereins Thüringer Ornithologen e.V. (VTO, the Ornithological Association of Thuringia) and was embedded in the nationwide records for the Atlas Deutscher Brutvogelarten (ADEBAR). Over 200 ornithologists, many of them members of the VTO and other nature conservation associations took part in this field work. A number of photographers contributed their bird and landscape photos.

A total of 166 regular breeding bird species in Thuringia are described by 22 species authors on one double page each. Maps and graphics illustrate distribution and inventory trends. Other irregular and former breeding birds are discussed in a shortened form. The four-person editorial team painstakingly revised all species texts and updated the changed situations for some species to the status up to 2018 and in some cases up to 2020. The work is rounded off with chapters on Thuringian geography and land use, the history of avifaunistics and the methodology and creation of the atlas.
