Pukeiti, the property of the Pukeiti Rhododendron Trust, lies between the forested slopes of the Pouakai and Kaitake Ranges in New Zealand's Egmont National Park. Pukeiti is known internationally for its outstanding rhododendron collection, but, in 1967, then curator Rob Hair observed that 'in the eyes of many visitors, the birds at Pukeiti and the lush native growth vie with the attractions of the rhododendrons themselves'.
The Birds of Pukeiti is an enlightening work for anyone who is interested in maintaining and enhancing the bird life of New Zealand through plantings of favoured food sources for birds, noxious animal control, and forest enrichment.
