  • Warwickshire Butterflies Ultimate guide!
By Tara 9 Jan 2023 Written for Hardback
This is an impressive book full of fantastic pictures and comprehensive information on the practical conservation work that goes on in Warwickshire. It is packed full of local case studies showcasing some of the many projects this branch has been involved with to create and enhance sites for butterflies. It is not just about conservation though, it also runs through each of Warwickshire's butterflies highlighting habitats, tips on how to find different life stages and individual management suggestions. A book I know I will keep going back to throughout the year. If this does not inspire you to get to know butterflies better and get out there and make a difference then I am not sure what will!

By David 11 Jan 2023 Written for Hardback
This book is a must-read for anyone with an interest in the conservation of butterflies. The advice not only covers the management of whole habitats but also includes conservation techniques to benefit individual species as well. There are numerous case studies to showcase the conservation methods in action and the book also includes detailed survey techniques so any conservation work can be monitored in detail. This is far more than just another book about butterflies and the authors should be congratulated on producing such a truly inspirational work.

  • Excellent book. The best I have read on butterfly conservation
By Tony 7 Feb 2023 Written for Hardback
This is the best book I have read for helping to understand how the fieldcraft required by creating a nature reserve can be used. Mike Slater has a wealth of practical experience and he is very generous in sharing what he has learnt over the years.
I am developing a couple of ex arable fields into a number of micro climates primarily for butterflies and this book will certainly save me much time and effort in being able to understand the best way of doing things.
The section containing details of the individual butterflies is especially helpful and I have been able to implement some of these ideas very successfully.
If there is only one book I would choose to help in nature conservation this would be the one. I thoroughly recommend it.

Media reviews

"Butterfly Conservation: The Warwickshire Approach is a fantastic resource for anyone planning to manage land for butterflies. Filled with lots of helpful tips and techniques it covers conservation targeting individual species as well as landscape-wide management. The conservation is also backed up with detailed case studies to show how these tried and tested methods have worked in the past. This book is a must-have addition to the bookshelves of anyone interested in the conservation of butterflies!"
– David James, Northamptonshire County Recorder for Butterflies

"Between the covers of this book lies a wealth of practical information about the conservation of butterflies derived from many years of first-hand field experience, gained through trial and error and deliberate experimentation. Whilst long-term, well-financed, scientific studies play their role in butterfly conservation, the imminency of both the climate crisis and the biodiversity emergency suggest that we need to use every tool in the conservationist's toolbox. Both the content and the supremely accessible layout of this no-nonsense 'Warwickshire Approach', is a refreshing contribution to the conservation of our native butterfly species and provide one more tool for the conservationist to work with."
– Dr Dan Danahar, Corfu Butterfly Conservation
