This is the first book dedicated exclusively to the land snails of Puerto Rico and adjacent islands. It also includes observations about related species that live in rivers, lagoons and the coast. Land snails make up a zoological group that is extremely vulnerable to environmental changes and habitat reduction and loss. To encourage greater knowledge and conservation of this phylum, the fauna of these molluscs is characterized in a simple and readable style, revealing aspects of their morphology, behaviour, ecology and distribution, as well as the diversity of sizes, shapes and colours that populate these islands. By documenting their widespread prevalence – generally unnoted by the untrained eye – this work highlights the existence of this interesting group of shell-making organisms, a property acquired during the evolutionary process.

Este constituye el primer libro dedicado exclusivamente a los caracoles terrestres de Puerto Rico y sus islas adyacentes, incluyendo observaciones sobre otras especies que viven en los ríos, lagunas y el litoral. Los caracoles terrestres conforman un grupo zoológico extremadamente frágil a los cambios ambientales y a la reducción y/o pérdida de hábitats. De forma simple y amena se caracteriza la fauna de moluscos, dándose a conocer aspectos de su morfología, comportamiento, ecología y distribución, así como se muestra la diversidad de tamaños, formas y colores que pueblan estas islas, para de esta manera incentivar su conocimiento y conservación.Esta obra remarca la existencia de este interesante grupo de organismos fabricantes de conchas, atributo adquirido durante el proceso evolutivo, a través de la divulgación de su generalmente ignota presencia ante el ojo no especializado.
