This book describes the freshwater fish commonly caught in inland fisheries in India. Broadly, the book has been divided in to three sections, comprising 12 chapters. The first section (Chapter 1 to 4) deals with the introduction, measurement of fishes, classification, morphology and basic anatomy and physiology of fish. The second section (chapter 5 to 7) deals with different fishing methods in India, the physio-chemical water parameters affecting growth and reproduction of fishes. Basic principles in fresh water fisheries and the economic importance fishes are given in this section. The third section (chapter 8 to 12) deals with the different methods of fish preservation and processing, the construction and maintenance of fish farm for commercial fish rearing. Furthermore, the different types of weeds that inhibit fish growth, as well as weed control measures are treated in this section.
