About this book

Language: German

"We wish to suggest a structure for the salt of deoxyribose nucleic acid (D.N.A.). This structure has novel features which are of considerable biological interest". These are the first sentences of the famous 1953 article, in which Francis Crick and James Watson proposed a double helix structure for DNA. This ground-breaking proposal had been developed in close alignment with – and not always legitimately using – the work of Maurice Wilkins and, above all, Rosalind Franklin. This book collects the four pivotal essays of these researchers from 1953, along with two important precursors (Avery, McLeod & McCarty 1944, Hershey & Chase 1952) that paved the way for discovery. The original publications are preceded by a generally understandable introduction in which the history of this discovery is traced and classified in the historical context.

Summary in German:
"We wish to suggest a structure for the salt of deoxyribose nucleic acid (D.N.A.).
