This issue features three challenging taxonomic accounts by C.K. Lim, our coeditor, who is also the founder Director of Suriana Botanic Conservation Gardens, concerned with the verification of species, here for Zingiberaceae and Musaceae. The lead paper redetermines Globba nutans L. surprisingly accepted for too long as Alpinia nutans Roscoe which has been confused with Alpinia zerumbet (Pers.) L.B. Burtt & R.M. Smith, here renamed as Tonemone malukuana C.K. Lim. This and the following two other accounts have been nurtured by extensive research on the work of Rumphius in Ambon, with field evidence that support the propositions. The rediscovery of Alpinia malaccensis (Burman f.) Roscoe in Ambon itself and in Seram appears to confirm that the plants so named from Java, Malaysia and India (by Roxburgh) may not be conspecific, and may have to be redetermined. The third account restates evidences of Apomixis in Musaceae and reinforces the conclusion that the Colla species Musa acuminata is uncertain in reality, and more devastatingly that Musa balbisiana is invalid, also Musa troglodytarum L., assertions that upset widely held beliefs about the evolution of Musa and cultivars.
In Musaceae, a new record of Musa sikkimensis Kurz from Manipur, India is presented by Singh, Handique & Sunitibala Devi.
Latiff & Bahari share their discovery of the elegant Nepenthaceae natural hybrid from the Endau-Rompin State Park in Pahang, Malaysia, Nepenthes × hookeriana which has suspectedly characters of N. rafflesiana and N. ampullaria.
Miraadila & Shabdin recognise a new Cyperaceae species from Kapit in Sarawak Malaysia, naming it Mapania meekiongii after Kalu Meekiong who has been active in field botanical discoveries within Malaysia.
Responding to recent publications extending concepts of Boesenbergia (Zingiberaceae), eminent Thai researcher Picheansoonthon presents "Nomenclatural Controversy between Caulokaempferia and Monolophus", defending their nomenclatural status with relevant historical references.
