Written in a precise and logical style, this text helps students learn statistical concepts by using a stepped problem-solving approach. The content is easy to read and presented in a systematic and methodical manner. It contains numerous examples and exercises. The pedagogical features include Chapter Challenges and Summaries, Technology Solutions and Corner. It includes Boxes to relate the content to statistical software, such as Excel and SPSS, and a Solutions Trail to help students solve the in-text problems.Written in a precise and logical style, this text helps students understand the process of basic statistical arguments. It allows them to grasp the importance of assumptions, to follow valid arguments or identify inaccurate conclusions, and most importantly to understand the process of statistical inference.

STEPHEN KOKOSKA received his undergraduate degree from Boston College and his MS and Ph.D. from The University of New Hampshire, USA. His research interests include mathematical modeling and the statistical analysis of cancer experiments. Steve has published a number of research papers in mathematics journals including Biometrics, Anticancer Research, and Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine, presented his results at national conferences, written several books, and has been awarded grants from the National Science Foundation, the Center for Rural Pennsylvania, and the Ben Franklin program. He has worked closely with student interns to provide computer related assistance to local businesses and directed a summer math and science camp for middle school students. Steve is a nationally endorsed consultant for The College Board, an Exam Leader for the grading of the Advanced Placement Calculus test, and is involved with calculus reform and the use of technology in the classroom. He has written several graphing calculator manuals to accompany statistics and precalculus texts, and is co-author of the CRC text Standard Probability and Statistics Tables and Formulae. Steve has given numerous presentations on graphing calculators and AP Calculus to area high school students and teachers. At Bloomsburg University, Pennsylvania, USA he usually teaches courses in calculus and statistics, regularly works with Mathematica and TeX, and serves as President of the Faculty Association.
